(Used) 1990's Wynn 5 String Banjo Resonator Mahogany Spider Bridge Style Acoustic

(Used) 1990's Wynn 5 String Banjo Resonator Mahogany Spider Bridge Style Acoustic

This Wynn banjo resonator is a remarkable, handmade piece of Ozark instrument history and a true one-of-a-kind build. This instrument is in Good Condition with several scratches and dings on the body of the instrument from normal play wear.Ā  Tuner on the 5th string appears to have been repaired but is fully functional. Commissioned by its original owner, this was the first of only twelve dobros Wynn ever produced and is believed to be the only banjo-style resonator he built. It features a Gibson-style neck with classic prewar-inspired aesthetics, blending the familiar look bluegrass players love with a completely unique resonator body design.

Ā

Tonally, this instrument offers a fascinating mix of snap and sustain. The five-string banjo scale and feel bring clarity and articulation, while the spider-cone resonator system adds depth, metallic shimmer, and a punch that cuts through a mix with authority. It has that handmade, responsive character you expect from a small-shop builder, with a voice that feels alive and distinctly different from factory-produced instruments.

Ā

Wynn instruments have developed a quiet but passionate cult following throughout the Ozarks, known for their individuality and craftsmanship. His banjos in particular are sought after by players who appreciate regional builders and the stories behind their instruments. Being the first commissioned example and possibly the only banjo resonator he ever produced, this piece represents not just an instrument, but a chapter of Ozark luthiery that rarely comes to market.
